Suryakumar Yadav will not be able to play in the 2024–25 Duleep Trophy’s first round due to a hand injury he suffered during Mumbai’s preseason match at the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore last week.
Suryakumar is presently undergoing a standard evaluation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru after being told to take it easy.
After hurting his hand while fielding on the third day of the match against TNCA XI last week, Suryakumar did not bat in the second innings.
The Mumbai team administration at the time stated that the action was taken as a precaution because of his involvement in the Duleep Trophy, which opened the season.
India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar, has stated that he is eager to make a Test comeback. Suryakumar declared himself available for the pre-season Buchi Babu Tournament in order to prepare for red-ball cricket.
India is scheduled to play 10 Tests over the next five months, beginning with a two-match series against Bangladesh in Chennai on September 19. Suryakumar hasn’t played any first-class cricket in more than a year.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of the India C team, selected Suryakumar, whose lone Test match experience was from last year against Australia. India C will play Shreyas Iyer’s India D in Anantapur.
At Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, India A and India B will play their other opening-round match simultaneously.
Fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik were recently ruled out of the Duleep Trophy’s opening round due to illness, and Ravindra Jadeja was withdrew, though the BCCI did not give a reason for his withdrawal.
For the India B and C teams, respectively, Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav will take the places of Siraj and Malik.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, meantime, has been cleared by the NCA. After being ruled out of India’s T20I squad for Zimbabwe in July due to a groin injury, his inclusion was contingent on his level of fitness.
